The Simpsons is an animated sitcom. They have been referred to as America’s favourite family located in the fictional town of Springfield. Anybody who is not familiar with Homer, Marge, Lisa, Bart and Maggie will find themselves gaping and roaring with laughter at a family who took the world by storm and became an instant hit with all those who watch the show. Homer is the father, he is an adorable idiot who works Springfield’s nuclear power plant in a job that he is completely unqualified to do.

The Simpsons is an animated sitcom. They have been referred to as America’s favourite family located in the fictional town of Springfield. Anybody who is not familiar with Homer, Marge, Lisa, Bart and Maggie will find themselves gaping and roaring with laughter at a family who took the world by storm and became an instant hit with all those who watch the show. Homer is the father, he is an adorable idiot who works Springfield’s nuclear power plant in a job that he is completely unqualified to do. His wife Marge is a house wife who tries hard to keep the family in order and to instil good moral values in her children and her husband who she loves dearly. Bart is in many ways, the devil in shorts. He always manages to get into trouble though his heart is in the right place. He is cheeky, mischievous and loves to play practical jokes on people and is often scheming to get away with all manner of naughty tricks. Lisa is the hard working intelligent one among them. Though the same age as Bart, she is advanced well beyond her years and her intelligence far surpasses that of her father who is completely thick in comparison. Maggie is the baby cannot talk, though she can surely suck a mean pacifier. The Simpsons portray the realities of living in the most unreal of ways. The show pokes innocent fun at the Christian church which plays a large part in their lives as Marge is a devout church-goer and they live next to the Flanders family who epitomise the devout and kindly bible bashing element of the church. It pokes fun at capitalism in America and introduces a warped interpretation of the American dream. Springfield’s police force is made up morons who in reality would stand as much chance of being allowed to wear a badge as the Swedish bikini team would be invited to hold a wet t-shirt contest in Mecca during the Haj. President George H.W Bush famously said in one his speeches that he wanted to make American families more like the Waltons and less like the Simpsons. This show can be summed up by one word, Genius. It will make audience of all ages roar with laughter as the loveable but dysfunctional family bring endless hours of stomach pumping laughter to the masses. A show not to be overlooked!
