It takes place in the present and spans the globe from New York to Tokyo. The shows’ characters and their individual storylines are diverse and they display a large range of very accurate human characteristics and personality traits as they come to terms with their new abilities while trying to save the world around them and prevent catastrophe. Some characters are honourable, some are unscrupulous and some are evil to the core. The tone of the show is mythical, pensive and mysterious and is supported by the backdrop of modern society and music that is spiritual and profound. The special effects are well balanced and while other shows of similar genres have often relied too heavily on their effects to instil momentum, the weight between storyline, character development, dialogue and tone on the one hand is perfectly balanced with very well executed, adrenalin fuelled action on the other. Fans of the science fiction genre will be instantly hooked by this highly acclaimed and much talked about show and many who are not inherent fans of science fiction have been quickly impressed by the sophisticated and elegant presentation of an exciting and flawlessly executed story. With acting and atmosphere of the highest quality, Heroes stamps a very powerful mark as a new-comer to the world of the world of superhero. As much audience enjoyment is gleaned early on from discovering the characters, their lives and abilities, revealing them here would only diminish the impact of what is without doubt a superbly crafted piece of television.
